I consider the blue tarpaulin to be a landmark of Mumbai. As tarpaulins are
the universal emergency solution, they are used for everything in this city:
to sleep on, live under, protect ones belongings, carry goods, set up shelters
from the monsoon…. So I was not surprised to find a big tarpaulin factory in
Mumbai.
As I was wandering through the city, I came by Mount Mary church in Bandra.
This is where I bought the wax sacrificial dolls from a lady, who runs her
little stand down by the steps of Mount Mary everyday. Christian people
climbing to the church buy her figurines, offer it to the Holy Mother Mary and
ask her for her protection, blessings and to provide them with their daily
needs.
