In Marseille and the South of France, people call this soap-blocs “savon d’Alep”(Aleppo Soap). In the XVth century, the crusaders took the secret of the soap from Aleppo to the West.
Aleppo soap is considered to be the first soap ever made in history.The story goes that the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra already used this soap, but its origin is lost in time, somewhere in Antiquity. Olive oil and laurel oil are the main ingredients in the ancient recipe. Aleppo soap, famous for its purity and its precious quality, is still crafted in Aleppo in Syria today.

In Marseille en Zuid Frankrijk noemt men deze zeepblokken “savon d’Alep” (Aleppo zeep). in de XVde eeuw namen de kruisvaarders het geheim van de zeep mee uit Aleppo naar het Westen.
De zeep uit Aleppo heeft het label “eerste zeep die ooit gemaakt werd in de geschiedenis “, de oorsprong moet ergens in de Oudheid liggen. Het verhaal doet de ronde dat de Egyptische koninging Cleopatra reeds zeep uit Aleppo gebruikte. Olijfolie en laurierolie zijn de basisingredienten in het antieke recept. Aleppo zeep, geroemd om haar zuiverheid en kwaliteit, wordt vandaag nog steeds ambachtelijk vervaardigd in Aleppo in Syrie.
