The artist invites 8 members of the audience to participate in a slow walk
around the city centre of Chemnitz. As a reward they achieved a signed and
numbered tarpaulin-edition.
Artificial Walk is an ephmeral collaborative performance, an act of vigilance.
A blue tarpaulin becomes the shell you step into the network with. The blue
tarpaulin functions as an artificial extension to your body; you become a
cyborg with a special task: When you walk you copy a code for tenderness and
compassion.
Now is Tarpaulin blue.
Tarpaulins are the universal emergency solution and the primary shelter for
people around the globe. Their colour, which is named by the artist as
‘Tarpaulin blue’, she perceives as a sign of the time, as the now-blue. It
occurs as infinite variations. There are as many Tarpaulin blue’s as there are
situations where people use the (blue) tarpaulins in. Tarpaulin blue is
alterable, it changes and fades by use and it’s pigmented by necessity in
peoples lives.
ARTIFICIAL WALK #2 _ PROGRAM
- Eight volunteers can participate in this collaborative performance.
- Starting-point:
1.30PM at Galerie Borssenanger - You put on a blue tarpaulin ‘shell’ and you take a place in the line.
You follow the artist, who walks ahead; she sets the rhythm. (You only leave the line for unavoidable casualties) - End:
around 2.30 PM the line arrives back at the gallery. You can keep the blue tarpaulin. The artist numbered (1 to 9) and signed it; You achieve a unique edition from this performance that you participated in.
